Not into this sport, but the arrogance & greed was unreal. English We have all heard about theft, fraud & corruption in sport now we get facts, names, dates & places.
This book is not a story it is a long, complicated list of events linking people to fraud. I had to go back several times to understand what I was reading. The book is not only about the Qatar World Cup but gives facts about previous World Cup corruption.
World football STILL has the main culprit at the top? Seems to prove he is untouchable!
Makes you wonder, when you see ANY sport live or on TV is this fixed????? Very sad for true sports fans. The Ugly Game: The Corruption of FIFA and the Qatari Plot to Buy the World Cup This is a gripping account of FIFA's culture of corruption. It reads like a suspenseful novel and I couldn't put it down. The authors do well in dispelling any perception of bias for English sour grapes at the World Cup failure by impeccably detailing the multiple, mutually reinforcing sources for their allegations.

I only wish they'd had information on the Russian bid, but based on the FIFA rules of the game, one can only assume that their bid was equally corrupt, an impression strengthened by Russia's actions after the fact, not to mention Blatter's cozyness with Vladimir Putin. The book that reminds you exactly whats wrong with FIFA ( Esquire UK): This meticulously reported account by two award winning, investigative journalists at Britains The Sunday Times explains how the 2022 World Cup was secured for Qatara key element in the ongoing, international FIFA controversy.

When the tiny desert state of Qatar won the rights to host the 2022 World Cup, the news was greeted with shock and disbelief. How had a country with almost no soccer infrastructure or tradition, a high terror risk, and searing summer temperatures, beaten established countries with stronger bids? The story behind the Qatari success soon developed into a global news sensation.

In 2014 The Sunday Times Insight team in the UK spilled the secrets of a bombshell cache of hundreds of millions of secret documents, which were leaked by a whistleblower. In forensic detail, they reported how Mohamed Bin Hammam, Qatars top soccer official, used his position to help secure the votes that Qatar needed to win the bid. The investigative team spent three months painstakingly piecing together Bin Hammams activities and reporting on cash handouts, lavish junkets, and evidence of payments to soccer officials around the world.

Now in this remarkable book by The Sunday Times journalists at the center of the investigation, Heidi Blake and Jonathan Calvert, comes a comprehensive account of what happened and who was involved. A bestseller in the UK, The Ugly Game is undoubtedly the biggest sporting story of recent times. The Ugly Game: The Corruption of FIFA and the Qatari Plot to Buy the World Cup

A fascinating read ahead of moving to Qatar it opened my eyes to the underlying culture! Heidi Blake, Jonathan Calvert This is a very well written expose of how Qatar won the right to hold the 2022 World Cup. It's written in a very easy to read way. The book reads like a whodunit, even though you know who did it early in the story. I highly recommend it. English This is really good if you are interested in the story of BinHamman and the world cup bidding; or how FIFA operates in general. The parts about the Blatter's re election are really good to. The Ugly Game: The Corruption of FIFA and the Qatari Plot to Buy the World Cup Brilliant, well researched read. Incredible detail and insights. If you are a far of football and want to know about what makes it go around and the politics, this is a must read. Kindle It feels as though this book has an agenda to push and poorly researched.
Disappointing read on a deflating subject as a football fan.
